Stephen G. Rae

Stephen G. Rae, contemporary artist; Haiku poet; co-founder of Bardsea-Green Films and Land of Lore Films; Druid and folklorist as the Bard of Cumberland.
My interest in storytelling and folklore started in my youth with tales of the sea people, boggles, kelpies, and sea-witches from my grandfather; and tales of faeries, leprechauns, and banshees from my grandmother.
My first book of Haiku poetry was published in 2024, and two folklore books published in 2025: Folklore of the Lake District and Boggarts, Brownies, Hobs and their Goblin Kin; an Encyclopedia of World Folklore. Elves and Fairies in Folklore is due in 2026.
Blending characters from folklore and mythology, philosophy, alchemy and the occult sciences, I create paintings in gouache, mixed media and oil. I also create contemporary folk art sculptures, and these are on permanent display in folklore museums.
